Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Maye, and a B-, for the Patriots. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The cost of the Washington reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at No. 34 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in the 68th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Malik Washington
Value said wait; Malik Washington in slot 139 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Jaylen Harrell in pick No. 182 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick 224 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
