Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Walker should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B.

The Bengals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Devontez Walker fell into Round 3, Pick 16. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 JC Latham
In slot 19 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick49 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
Taking Tyler Nubin in Round 2, Pick 17 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick80 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
The board fumbled Devontez Walker all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick83 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A tidy little value on Cooper Beebe in the 83rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick115 Rnd4 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at pick No. 115 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart is a better player than No. 151 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick173 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
Nothing to complain about; Grayson Murphy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick191 Rnd6 Trey Knox
A slide stopped in pick 191, with Trey Knox worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick196 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
They took JD Bertrand at par in pick No. 196, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Dylan McMahon
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan McMahon at the 238th pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254 Rnd7 Donovan Jennings
Donovan Jennings at No. 254 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
