Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueD+ NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
The Jets robbed the room for Muhammad III. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in pick 229 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Jets sat still while Moose Muhammad III, the No. 176 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Smith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Cooper Beebe
In No. 17 they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection.
Pick36 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in the 36th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick72 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Patrick Paul worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick81 Rnd3 Ricky Pearsall
By-the-book stuff, Ricky Pearsall at Round 3, Pick 17 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick108 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in the 108th overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick145 Rnd5 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in pick No. 145 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186 Rnd6 DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter at pick 186 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick225 Rnd7 Tim Smith
Tim Smith at slot 225 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229 Rnd7 Moose Muhammad III
You do not let a wide receiver like Moose Muhammad III reach pick No. 229 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick256 Rnd7 Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at pick 256 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
