Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Broncos kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The Oronde Gadsden II pick is the one that will follow the Broncos into the fall. They took him 72 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

Rourke falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Cam Skattebo
A wild overpay on Cam Skattebo in Round 2, Pick 19, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
A reasonable price with a little left over, Azareye'h Thomas in the 62nd pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick85 Rnd3 Deone Walker
By-the-book stuff, Deone Walker at slot 85 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122 Rnd4 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 122 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Ashton Gillotte
Somehow Ashton Gillotte was still sitting there in No. 132, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at the 170th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
They read the board right and Jack Nelson was the payoff at No. 191. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197 Rnd6 Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles in slot 197 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick208 Rnd6 Kurtis Rourke
You do not let a quarterback like Kurtis Rourke reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
