The Packers let Dixon fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Johnny Dixon, the No. 181 name on the board, stolen at the 201st pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Max Melton at pick No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.

They did well to land Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in No. 88, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

They took Bucky Irving at par in pick 91, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the 125th pick on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.

Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The roster fit checks out.
