The Buccaneers cashed the board's mistake on Kinchens: B. Whoever sat across the table from the Buccaneers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Kinchens pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Knight pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Chris Braswell
In the 32nd overall pick they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick89
Rnd3
Trey Benson
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick93
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at slot 93 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick95
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
No drama and no debate, Christian Mahogany went about where he belonged in pick No. 95. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They took Cedric Gray at par in Round 4, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
The board had cheaper options than Jaylin Simpson at pick 127, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson slipping to the 143rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 22. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Tyrice Knight
They jumped the gun on Tyrice Knight, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick220
Rnd6
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
A premium they did not need to pay, Javontae Jean-Baptiste a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick228
Rnd7
Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman in pick 228 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
