FutureA
The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Jacob Dobbs in the 245th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Murphy II that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In pick 27 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick57
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper DeJean at the 57th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
A reach on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick82
Rnd3
Max Melton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Melton this early at pick No. 82. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Will Shipley
They went early on Will Shipley in the 84th pick, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Byron Murphy II
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Byron Murphy II in pick 87, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They reached into another round for Cole Bishop, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at Round 4, Pick 23 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick135
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
They jumped the gun on Dylan Laube, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick161
Rnd5
Joshua Gray
They reached a country mile for Joshua Gray at the 161st pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Ricky Pearsall
A big swing on Ricky Pearsall at the 173rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189
Rnd6
Carson Steele
Carson Steele at pick No. 189 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd6
Willie Roberts
Willie Roberts at No. 217 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd6
Cal Haladay
Value said wait; Cal Haladay in slot 219 says they were not listening. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick232
Rnd7
Xavier Thomas
They talked themselves into Xavier Thomas at pick No. 232, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jacob Dobbs
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jacob Dobbs well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
