FutureB-
The Raiders won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The tape said wait; the Raiders did not. Spencer Rattler went at Round 2, Pick 12, a good 73 picks before the board was ready.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In the 17th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Spencer Rattler
This one needs a full-page explanation: Spencer Rattler in Round 2, Pick 12, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick59
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
They paid up for Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 59 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
A slide stopped in slot 77, with Blake Fisher worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A conviction pick on Leonard Taylor III at pick 86 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Taking Cam Hart in No. 113 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147
Rnd5
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the 147th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick210
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
By-the-book stuff, Michael Barrett at pick 210 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick211
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and the 211th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan in Round 7, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Garret Greenfield
Good price on Garret Greenfield in slot 225, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in No. 227 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
