Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
The Bears bled value on every deal, hence the D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
Lucas has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They will answer for taking safety early while running back and quarterback went begging. The Golday pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in the 44th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick66
Rnd3
Anthony Lucas
They reached into another round for Anthony Lucas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick89
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at No. 89 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
A conviction pick on Zachariah Branch at the 92nd pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jake Golday
Jake Golday at pick 101 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Genesis Smith at safety with running back and quarterback open.
Pick129
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
A premium they did not need to pay, Max Iheanachor a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Domani Jackson at No. 138 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the 140th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in pick 163 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
