Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Giants drew a line under the quarterback search with Ward: B-. When a board-topper like Nicholas Singleton slides to the 219th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Giants did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The whole projection now runs through Cam Ward; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Greene III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A slide stopped in pick 34, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild slid further than he should have, and the 65th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at the 104th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 134 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kyren Lacy
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 153 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd7
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
Fentrell Cypress II at pick No. 245 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at Round 7, Pick 40 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
