Draft Grade — Panthers

Larceny in the 227th pick lands the Panthers a B-, Bassa and all. You build a draft on nights like this. Jeffrey Bassa had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Panthers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will need Diggs to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard in No. 57 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in pick No. 74 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111
Rnd4
Savion Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 111 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
Elijah Roberts
Value said wait; Elijah Roberts in the 114th pick says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140
Rnd5
Fadil Diggs
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Fadil Diggs. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen McLeod this early at pick 146. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Que Robinson
A wild overpay on Que Robinson in the 163rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jeffrey Bassa
They will replay Jeffrey Bassa at slot 227 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
