FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Lions. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Lions spent pick No. 244 on Barryn Sorrell, a name most had 71 spots down the list.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
In No. 28 they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Ezeiruaku. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Jared Wilson at the 102nd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton in pick No. 134 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick196
Rnd6
Logan Parr
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Logan Parr well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Akili Arnold in pick 225. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick228
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie at the 228th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick244
Rnd7
Barryn Sorrell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at No. 244. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
