Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it.

The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 92 on Kenyatta Jackson Jr. a full 32 spots early. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Robinson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In pick No. 28 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in pick 60 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
They reached a country mile for Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
A big swing on J.C. Davis at Round 4, Pick 23, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at the 128th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick168 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
They paid sticker price for Tanner Koziol in No. 168, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson in pick No. 195 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at Round 6, Pick 28 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd7 Jahiem White
They took Jahiem White at par in the 216th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
A straight-up fair deal on Nolan Rucci at slot 242, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
