Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-. Nobody else had Oluwafemi Oladejo anywhere near Round 3, Pick 13. The Patriots did, by 66 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Edwards that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 17th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
A tidy little value on Josh Conerly Jr. in pick 38, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell is a better player than Round 2, Pick 17 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick69
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Value said wait; Oluwafemi Oladejo in the 77th overall pick says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
A real head-scratcher, Mitchell Evans in pick No. 106 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Fair-plus on Malachi Moore, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
They robbed the room for Trevor Etienne here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Taking Donovan Edwards in pick 238 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
