Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureB-
Larceny in pick 38 lands the Patriots a B-, McMillan and all.

You could see the war room lean forward. Tetairoa McMillan at the Round 2 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Walker left real value on the table behind him. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the 7th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tetairoa McMillan
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tetairoa McMillan in No. 38, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A reach for Deone Walker in Round 3, Pick 13; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
No edge and no loss on Anthony Belton in pick No. 106; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
A quiet steal in the 110th pick: Kevin Winston Jr. for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
They paid a round early for Bhayshul Tuten in pick 144, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at slot 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217 Rnd7 Howard Cross III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Howard Cross III. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220 Rnd7 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at pick No. 220 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick238 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Bilhal Kone. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
They went early on Donovan Smith in the 247th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
