Good, not great, for the Packers: B. The Packers bet big and early on Antwaun Powell-Ryland, 31 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in Round 2, Pick 22, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Grant at slot 87, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Antwaun Powell-Ryland well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 159 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
They paid a round early for Nazir Stackhouse in the 194th pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198
Rnd6
Addison West
They jumped the gun on Addison West, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
They read the board right and Jermari Harris was the payoff at the 237th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick250
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in Round 7, Pick 34 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
