The Bills cashed the board's mistake on Winston Jr.: B-.

When a board-topper like Kevin Winston Jr. slides to Round 4, Pick 30, you do not overthink it, and the Bills did not. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They are betting Mills proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Shavon Revel Jr.
In pick No. 30 they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick56 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
By-the-book stuff, Elic Ayomanor at the 56th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 62 with a little surplus value in Demetrius Knight Jr.. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick109 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Rylie Mills well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 132 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick169 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
They will replay Vernon Broughton at Round 5, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chase Lundt in the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong slid further than he should have, and the 173rd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick177 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
They took JJ Pegues at par in No. 177, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick206 Rnd6 Ja'Corey Brooks
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Corey Brooks a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
