Draft Grade — Packers
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Packers, and a C+ to match.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Javon Foster; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 28 spots ahead at pick 91. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

Hit on Kool-Aid McKinstry and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
A straight-up fair deal on Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 25th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick71 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
A conviction pick on Michael Hall Jr. at the 71st overall pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in slot 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90 Rnd3 Braelon Allen
A reach for Braelon Allen in pick No. 90; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91 Rnd3 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at No. 91 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126 Rnd4 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick169 Rnd5 Tanor Bortolini
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanor Bortolini well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick202 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in slot 202 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick219 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor in No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Bub Means
By-the-book stuff, Bub Means at the 245th pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255 Rnd7 Emani Bailey
Emani Bailey in Round 7, Pick 35 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
