Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills won the night they stopped Beebe from sliding. Grade: B. Somebody in the Round 4 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Cooper Beebe, the No. 78 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Green pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In the 28th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick60
Rnd2
Devontez Walker
They read the board right and Devontez Walker was the payoff at slot 60. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. reach pick 99 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Taking Cooper Beebe in No. 128 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick162
Rnd5
Delmar Glaze
The board had cheaper options than Delmar Glaze at the 162nd pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jalen Green
A reach on Jalen Green in pick No. 197; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick202
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at Round 6, Pick 27. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick206
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
Nothing to complain about; De'Corian Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Myles Cole
No edge and no loss on Myles Cole in the 249th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
