Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Jaguars this weekend: B.

The McCallan Castles pick is the one that will follow the Jaguars into the fall. They took him 76 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That Coleman pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

The Jaguars indulged a want in Smith while a need in quarterback stayed open. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick48 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 48 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran in the 59th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick61 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at Round 2, Pick 29 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at slot 66, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick73 Rnd3 Austin Booker
Austin Booker in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick90 Rnd3 Cam Hart
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at slot 92, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick96 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at the 96th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick105 Rnd4 Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback open.
Pick115 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at pick No. 115 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117 Rnd4 Javon Foster
No drama and no debate, Javon Foster went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick 128 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick152 Rnd5 Dwight McGlothern
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at No. 152, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195 Rnd6 Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at Round 6, Pick 20 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211 Rnd6 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
A real head-scratcher, Javontae Jean-Baptiste in Round 6, Pick 36 is miles ahead of his ranking. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at the 222nd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
A clean, defensible pick in pick 224 with a little surplus value in Michael Barrett. The roster fit checks out.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jawhar Jordan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jawhar Jordan in slot 234, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247 Rnd7 McCallan Castles
A swing that ignored the value entirely, McCallan Castles well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
