FutureD-
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Franklin: B. When a board-topper like Troy Franklin slides to pick 86, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Every board in the league had Hartman lower, and that gap is the story. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 24th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 41. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
They let Payton Wilson come to them and pounced at slot 58. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in the 59th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86
Rnd3
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
They took Caelen Carson at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick122
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 122. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in No. 126 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett in the 224th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
They read the board right and Tyler Owens was the payoff at pick No. 238. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick247
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at Round 7, Pick 27. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
