Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The 49ers let Knight Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Demetrius Knight Jr., the No. 63 name on the board, stolen at slot 146. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

They are betting Evans proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The 49ers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 17th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They did well to land Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
Taking Aireontae Ersery in slot 74 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
They robbed the room for Tyleik Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Circle this one: Gunnar Helm at the 91st pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in pick 99, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at Round 4, Pick 8 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick118 Rnd4 Earnest Greene III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Earnest Greene III well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135 Rnd4 Maxwell Hairston
The board fumbled Maxwell Hairston all the way to the 135th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick137 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
Value said wait; Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146 Rnd5 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick No. 146 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick156 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at No. 156 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick185 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 185th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Hancock at Round 6, Pick 16. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jeffrey Bassa
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in slot 201, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick203 Rnd6 Ricky White III
They barely believed it either: Ricky White III still on the board at pick 203. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Quincy Riley
A tidy little value on Quincy Riley in pick 226, a step better than break-even. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick230 Rnd7 Fentrell Cypress II
A real head-scratcher, Fentrell Cypress II in slot 230 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick239 Rnd7 Mitchell Evans
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mitchell Evans in Round 7, Pick 23, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the 249th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman at No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
