FutureB+
The Bills worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Bills should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The cost of the Ford reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
They banked enough surplus on Robinson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Bills paired the rookies with proven help, Chris Godwin leading the way.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in the 57th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than pick No. 88, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick99
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
They paid sticker price for Marshawn Kneeland in No. 99, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick129
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at pick 129 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylan Ford. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in slot 162, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick198
Rnd6
Javon Baker
Javon Baker slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 23 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in the 202nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jha'Quan Jackson
Jha'Quan Jackson in the 206th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at Round 7, Pick 26 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
