Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bills for Simpson: B. The Bills did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylin Simpson fell into Round 6, Pick 22. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Somehow Jalen McMillan was still sitting there in pick No. 99, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick129
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in pick 129 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
Sincere Haynesworth at the 159th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick162
Rnd5
Sataoa Laumea
They will replay Sataoa Laumea at No. 162 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
The board fumbled Jaylin Simpson all the way to slot 197, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick202
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at the 202nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick206
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
Nothing to complain about; De'Corian Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jawhar Jordan
Steal is underselling it; Jawhar Jordan at the 246th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
