The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Stout: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Upton Stout, the No. 189 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 251.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In No. 31 they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Zy Alexander
No edge and no loss on Zy Alexander in slot 54; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in pick 66. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick87
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
You do not let a cornerback like Azareye'h Thomas reach the 87th pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 123 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick200
Rnd6
Karene Reid
Karene Reid in Round 6, Pick 22 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick239
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trevor Etienne in the 239th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Upton Stout
The board fumbled Upton Stout all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the 256th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
