The Cowboys did enough to get by: C+. The war room fell hard for Kalil Alexander, and it showed at the 216th pick: 49 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
However the rest shakes out, Green at that price is a win they earned. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
With cornerback, offensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.
Hit on T.J. Parker and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
T.J. Parker
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Parker at Round 1, Pick 12 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick24
Rnd1
David Bailey
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, David Bailey adds an edge rusher and leaves cornerback, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at No. 112 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
A clean, defensible pick in slot 152 with a little surplus value in Eric Rivers. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at the 177th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd7
Kalil Alexander
They talked themselves into Kalil Alexander at the 216th overall pick, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick229
Rnd7
Taylen Green
Taylen Green in the 229th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
