Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA+
The Commanders bled value on every deal, hence the C+. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Drake Nugent a full 31 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. On value alone, Muasau makes the weekend a net positive. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 17th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in Round 2, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in slot 67. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick74
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A reach for Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick96
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They read the board right and TreVeyon Henderson was the payoff at pick No. 96. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick101
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at No. 101 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at the 102nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick141
Rnd5
Kris Abrams-Draine
Somehow Kris Abrams-Draine was still sitting there in pick 141, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181
Rnd6
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. in No. 181 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick205
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at pick No. 205 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Darius Muasau
The board fumbled Darius Muasau all the way to Round 7, Pick 3, and they scooped it up. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick248
Rnd7
Phil Jurkovec
You do not let a quarterback like Phil Jurkovec reach slot 248 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
