Nobody dealt better than the Texans this weekend: B. The Myles Cole pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 71 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The Texans indulged a want in Jackson while a need in tight end stayed open. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Fair-plus on Payton Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick59
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Roman Wilson in the 59th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Somehow Kiran Amegadjie was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
A tidy bit of business in No. 88, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 91 on Khyree Jackson with tight end unsolved.
Pick123
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick126
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Myles Cole
A big swing on Myles Cole at the 127th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick188
Rnd6
Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in Round 6, Pick 13 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at No. 238 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taulia Tagovailoa in the 247th pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252
Rnd7
Johnny Dixon
They barely believed it either: Johnny Dixon still on the board at pick 252. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
