Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureD-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and James: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: DJ James, the No. 87 name on the board, stolen at pick 124. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Watson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback went begging. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 23 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In the 24th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick58 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Good price on Braden Fiske in No. 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59 Rnd2 Max Melton
No drama and no debate, Max Melton went about where he belonged in pick No. 59. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick86 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
Value with a capital V on Xavier Legette in slot 86, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Calen Bullock in the 87th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick124 Rnd4 DJ James
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with DJ James while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 28 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
A slide stopped in pick 236, with Tanner McLachlan worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick250 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Blake Watson this early at the 250th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
