Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
Larceny in the 43rd overall pick lands the Falcons a B, Penix Jr. and all.

When a board-topper like Michael Penix Jr. slides to the Round 2 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Falcons did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The cost of the Tupuola-Fetui reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick 13 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Michael Penix Jr.
Michael Penix Jr. at the 43rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at slot 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Max Melton
No edge and no loss on Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick79 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They liked Dominick Puni enough to skip the value, taking him in the 79th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109 Rnd4 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
They will replay Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at No. 109 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick143 Rnd5 Jamari Thrash
Value with a capital V on Jamari Thrash in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
By-the-book stuff, Mason McCormick at pick No. 148 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187 Rnd6 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zion Tupuola-Fetui this early at pick 187. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick197 Rnd6 Erick All
Erick All in the 197th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
Somehow Jaylan Ford was still sitting there in the 223rd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
