Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureA
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The Steelers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 199 on Tanor Bortolini a full 30 spots early. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Landing Guyton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Kalen King
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kalen King at pick 53. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They will replay Tyler Guyton at No. 63 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick85
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 85th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick98
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Travis in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in the 121st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 199 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick209
Rnd6
Trey Knox
They read the board right and Trey Knox was the payoff at pick No. 209. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jalen Berger
Jalen Berger in Round 7, Pick 22 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
