Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
The Patriots robbed the room for Ioane. Final grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Olaivavega Ioane tumbling to the Patriots in pick 110 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They are betting Payton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
Taking Francis Mauigoa in No. 31 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Steal is underselling it; Kenyon Sadiq at Round 2, Pick 31 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Olaivavega Ioane
You do not let an offensive lineman like Olaivavega Ioane reach the 110th pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at the 125th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131
Rnd4
Malachi Lawrence
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Lawrence a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
They read the board right and Treydan Stukes was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick187
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
They will replay Aaron Anderson at pick No. 187 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick189
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at slot 189 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick207
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson slipping to No. 207 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick208
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
Robert Spears-Jennings at the 208th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210
Rnd6
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in pick No. 210 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
They paid up for Jordan Hall at slot 247 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
