Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall

FutureA+
The Raiders turned the phones into found money: A-. The Raiders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
The Pena pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Tiernan to cover a lot of smaller sins.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, with Caleb Downs leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense, and a steal at that.
Pick66
Rnd3
John Mateer
John Mateer in Round 3, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101
Rnd4
Caleb Tiernan
Taking Caleb Tiernan in slot 101 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They talked themselves into Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 115th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
They paid a round early for Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 136, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick175
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
They jumped the gun on Gracen Halton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Trebor Pena
Trebor Pena at No. 182 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick184
Rnd6
Rasheem Biles
A conviction pick on Rasheem Biles at pick 184 that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick218
Rnd7
Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen in the 218th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
