Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Jets, and a B- to prove it.

The Jets spent real capital to be 27 picks early on Eric Gentry, and the board is going to hold them to it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
They paid sticker price for Caleb Downs in the 2nd overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick33 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sonny Styles adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick44 Rnd2 Keith Abney II
Keith Abney II at slot 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
A reach on Trinidad Chambliss in pick 103; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick175 Rnd5 Eric McAlister
A clean, defensible pick in the 175th pick with a little surplus value in Eric McAlister. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd5 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah in Round 5, Pick 40 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jalon Daniels
A straight-up fair deal on Jalon Daniels at No. 192, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jerry Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Jerry Wilson at the 206th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
They took Brett Norfleet at par in pick No. 209, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick218 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J. Michael Sturdivant. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric Gentry. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
