The Buccaneers cashed the board's mistake on Nelson: B-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Zion Nelson, the No. 210 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 241. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Van Pran reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In the 32nd overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
You do not let an edge rusher like JT Tuimoloau reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick64
Rnd2
Quinn Ewers
They paid sticker price for Quinn Ewers in the 64th pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick84
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A premium they did not need to pay, Sedrick Van Pran a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jahdae Barron
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jahdae Barron. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 23 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
They will replay Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 220 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick241
Rnd7
Zion Nelson
Zion Nelson in No. 241 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
