DonnaD DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cowboys: B. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Hayden Conner at No. 217 is 54 spots clear of where he belonged.
Walker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Omarion Hampton
In the 23rd pick they get a lead back with juice. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at slot 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick48
Rnd2
Trey Amos
They paid sticker price for Trey Amos in Round 2, Pick 16, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech at the 76th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124
Rnd4
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at pick 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Logan Brown
No edge and no loss on Logan Brown in pick No. 149; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174
Rnd5
DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at the 174th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
A straight-up fair deal on Thomas Fidone II at slot 204, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 211 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the 217th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick239
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac TeSlaa. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
They paid up for Jaylin Smith at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
