Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall

ValueB

FutureA
Nix is the Cardinals' new face under center. Grade: D+. The phones were a trap the Cardinals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
Whatever Bo Nix becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Irving pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick13
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 27th overall pick they get the arm they will build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in No. 35, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick62
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at slot 62 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
They took Christian Haynes at par in pick No. 66, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A clean, defensible pick in pick 90 with a little surplus value in Blake Corum. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 4 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick108
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving slipping to Round 4, Pick 8 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138
Rnd5
Beau Brade
Beau Brade in the 138th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick162
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
No edge and no loss on Marist Liufau in pick No. 162; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick186
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Grayson Murphy at the 186th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Trey Knox
No drama and no debate, Trey Knox went about where he belonged in pick 226. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
