Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Steelers to a D+.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Buchanan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 21 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at No. 56 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick83 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at the 83rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick109 Rnd4 Quinn Ewers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Quinn Ewers at pick No. 109 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tory Horton
Tory Horton slipping to the 123rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick156 Rnd5 Barryn Sorrell
A premium they did not need to pay, Barryn Sorrell a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
They paid sticker price for Jaylen Reed in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick229 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A big swing on Teddye Buchanan at Round 7, Pick 13, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
