DaHo DRAFTING FOR THESaints
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Saints: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with Willie Lampkin in the 93rd overall pick.
However the rest shakes out, Mullings at that price is a win they earned. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a double-digit-sack hope, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
They took Omarr Norman-Lott at par in slot 71, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick93
Rnd3
Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at No. 93 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112
Rnd4
Riley Leonard
They let Riley Leonard come to them and pounced at the 112th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kalel Mullings
You do not let a running back like Kalel Mullings reach pick No. 131 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick184
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at Round 6, Pick 8 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
