Draft Grade — Browns
Overall A-
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Browns turned the phones into found money: A-.

There is reaching, and then there is Phillip Webb at slot 216. The Browns jumped the board by 122 and dared it to prove them wrong. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In the end it comes back to Kenneth Grant, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 17 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at pick No. 33. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick46 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Jack Bech in Round 3, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andrew Mukuba. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo slid further than he should have, and the 94th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick104 Rnd4 Elijah Roberts
They reached a country mile for Elijah Roberts at the 104th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick162 Rnd5 Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke at the 162nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in No. 179 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
You do not let a running back like Damien Martinez reach pick No. 200 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216 Rnd6 Phillip Webb
A big swing on Phillip Webb at pick 216, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
