Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
Grand theft in pick No. 226: the Browns steal Baker and grade out a D+.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Browns, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Baker to cover a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick55 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in slot 55 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in the 60th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at pick 66 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at Round 3, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at No. 102, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jacob Cowing
The board had Jacob Cowing higher than pick No. 112, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick135 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in No. 135 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick156 Rnd5 Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. in slot 156 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick205 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Circle this one: Frank Gore Jr. at the 205th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick208 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
Nothing to complain about; JD Bertrand went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick219 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
They took Gabe Hall at par in pick 219, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick226 Rnd7 Javon Baker
Taking Javon Baker in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick228 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Miyan Williams worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
