italia1970 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Harris: B. When a board-topper like Tre Harris slides to Round 7, Pick 33, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter is a better player than slot 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick43
Rnd2
Shemar Stewart
Shemar Stewart at the 43rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Armand Membou
They barely believed it either: Armand Membou still on the board at No. 75. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in Round 3, Pick 36 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
They robbed the room for Wyatt Milum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at pick 138 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick147
Rnd5
Ashton Jeanty
They will replay Ashton Jeanty at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
T.J. Sanders
Steal is underselling it; T.J. Sanders at pick No. 187 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jake Majors
Taking Jake Majors in the 226th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick230
Rnd7
Dylan Fairchild
Somehow Dylan Fairchild was still sitting there in the 230th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Tre Harris
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252
Rnd7
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Demetrius Knight Jr. in No. 252, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
