Ward is the plan now, and the Dolphins grade out a D.

The Dolphins went off the board in a big way for Shaun Dolac, 128 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. It is not that Watts is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
