Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall A
ValueA NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
Grand theft in slot 255: the Dolphins steal Jackson and grade out a A.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Jayden Jackson slide 112 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Dolphins paired the rookies with proven help, Brian Thomas Jr. leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Bottom line, with Dylan Stewart leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Dylan Stewart
In slot 25 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Taking Will Echoles in pick No. 40 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jayden Maiava
Jayden Maiava at pick 60 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick102 Rnd4 Terrance Carter Jr.
They paid sticker price for Terrance Carter Jr. in the 102nd overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107 Rnd4 Braylon Staley
No drama and no debate, Braylon Staley went about where he belonged in No. 107. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick142 Rnd5 Cam Cook
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Cook. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick147 Rnd5 Myles Graham
Myles Graham at Round 5, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick155 Rnd5 Ian Moore
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ian Moore in No. 155. It fills a real need, too.
Pick182 Rnd6 Mateen Ibirogba
Value with a capital V on Mateen Ibirogba in the 182nd pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Joseph Borjon
Circle this one: Joseph Borjon at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jayden Jackson
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Jayden Jackson in the 255th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
