Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Chargers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The Chargers did not so much draft Richard Jibunor as overpay for him, 42 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Getting Lloyd where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers in Round 1, Pick 12 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the 23rd pick they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
They took Darius Robinson at par in slot 37, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in No. 69, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 77 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick105 Rnd4 DeWayne Carter
Fair-plus on DeWayne Carter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
The board had MarShawn Lloyd higher than pick 110, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at the 140th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick145 Rnd5 Kalen King
Good price on Kalen King in the 145th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
They paid up for Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 2 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Erick All
A wild overpay on Erick All in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick225 Rnd7 Myles Murphy
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Myles Murphy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at slot 229 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick230 Rnd7 Richard Jibunor
They reached a country mile for Richard Jibunor at pick No. 230, and the board is aghast. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jordan Whittington
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Whittington went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
