Draft Grade — Titans
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Titans lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Titans spent No. 181 on Patrick Payton, a name most had 56 spots down the list. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman and tight end went begging. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The Williams value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
Jeremiyah Love at slot 12 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick34 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46 Rnd2 Romello Height
They paid sticker price for Romello Height in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick50 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
A clean, defensible pick in pick 50 with a little surplus value in Ja'Kobi Lane. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Slaughter at the 57th pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick73 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
The board had A.J. Harris higher than No. 73, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Keith Abney II while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and tight end sat open.
Pick79 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at the 79th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Pick91 Rnd3 Austin Barber
By-the-book stuff, Austin Barber at Round 3, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
They reached into another round for Akheem Mesidor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110 Rnd4 Adon Shuler
Adon Shuler in No. 110 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick142 Rnd5 Kage Casey
They talked themselves into Kage Casey at pick 142, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at pick No. 148 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick161 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Drew Allar in slot 161 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in Round 6, Pick 1 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick240 Rnd7 Amare Campbell
A tidy little value on Amare Campbell in the 240th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
