Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bengals let Brooks fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Tahj Brooks, the No. 115 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Kandra proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
The board fumbled Kaleb Johnson all the way to No. 81, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
They reached a country mile for Luke Kandra at pick 89, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at the 117th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick152 Rnd5 Barrett Carter
Taking Barrett Carter in Round 5, Pick 15 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick191 Rnd6 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks at the 191st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
