Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys robbed the room for McCoy. Final grade: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jermod McCoy at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In the 20th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick112 Rnd4 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150 Rnd5 Colton Hood
You do not let a cornerback like Colton Hood reach pick No. 150 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177 Rnd5 Michael Taaffe
Somehow Michael Taaffe was still sitting there in the 177th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick215 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at slot 215 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick221 Rnd7 Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy at No. 221 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick225 Rnd7 J.C. Davis
Taking J.C. Davis in pick 225 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
