FutureB-
The Raiders drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: D-. The Raiders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If Overton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On value alone, Scott makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, offensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick29
Rnd1
LT Overton
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Zion Young
They went early on Zion Young in slot 36, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick61
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A conviction pick on Omar Cooper Jr. at pick No. 67 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The board fumbled Keionte Scott all the way to the 93rd pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
A slide stopped in the 102nd overall pick, with Emmett Johnson worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham at No. 117 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
They did well to land Jakobe Thomas in the 135th pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick168
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
Value with a capital V on Ted Hurst in pick No. 168, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Fair-plus on Lander Barton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
