Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B+
ValueB

TradesA+
FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Chargers this weekend: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chargers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
They banked enough surplus on Morgan to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
A tidy little value on Brock Bowers in No. 9, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan is a better player than the 41st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 109 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at slot 143 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick184
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in the 184th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
The board had cheaper options than Cody Schrader at pick 227, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
